WildStorm & Zuda Imprints Close Amidst DC Changes




A year after the announcement of DC Entertainment's creation to synch the DC Comics library up with Warner Bros. larger media goals and the first major changes to how the company is run have begun to fall into place.

In the wake of this morning's news that segments of DC's administrative and digital staff would relocate from New York to Burbank, DC Co-Publishers Dan Didio and Jim Lee have announced via the company's The Source blog a number of changes to the company's publishing line, branding and staffing.

First and foremost, the WildStorm imprint – which was purchased and brought under the DC banner when Lee joined DC in 1999 – will end this December. The WildStorm superhero universe will effectively end with the final issues of its last ongoing series "WildCats" and "The Authority." The many video game and licensed comics produced by the La Jolla, CA-based imprint will be moved under the DC banner while the Editorial staff of WildStorm will be folded into the new Burbank digital unit of DC.

"After taking the comics scene by storm nearly 20 years ago, the WildStorm Universe titles will end this December," the Co-Publishers explained in a joint statement, noting the end of the brand was not the end of all the characters stories. "In this soft marketplace, these characters need a break to regroup and redefine what made them once unique and cutting edge. While these will be the final issues published under the WildStorm imprint, it will not be the last we will see of many of these heroes. We, along with Geoff Johns, have a lot of exciting plans for these amazing characters, so stay tuned."

In addition and perhaps unsurprisingly, DC will drop all uses of the Zuda brand name that once highlighted its web comics initiatives. Previously published Zuda titles will live on as DC digital releases and collections.

"We remain, as ever, dedicated to working with the greatest creators this industry has to offer, while inspiring generations of creators and readers to embrace this medium that we all love," said Didio and Lee.

Warner Bros. moves all DC operations except publishing to L.A. from New York, cuts some staff




A yearlong reorganization at Warner Bros.' DC Entertainment division has finally concluded as the studio decided to move some of its New York-based operations to the Los Angeles area, resulting in about 50 layoffs.

DC's multimedia production, including film, television and online, along with digital publishing operations will relocate to Burbank, while traditional comic book publishing will remain in New York.

Since last September, when Diane Nelson was named president of DC -- best known for its superhero properties Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman -- she has considered consolidating the entire unit at Warner Bros.' Burbank headquarters, where she works.

"We seriously considered every scenario and looked at the operational, financial and people considerations," Nelson said. "We think this is the best way to go."

DC's non-comic-book production efforts, including film and television properties being developed at the studio, will be overseen by Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. L.A.-based co-publisher Jim Lee will oversee publishing on new digital platforms such as the iPad and co-publisher Dan DiDio will run the comic book operation out of New York.

About 20% of DC's roughly 250 staffers will lose their jobs as part of the shift, while some others will move to the West Coast from the East. In addition, certain new positions are being added in Burbank.

Ongoing uncertainty has played a role in DC's slow ramp-up since Nelson took her job last year. At the time, Warner's top executives said they were counting on the new DC team to help develop a slate of tentpole movies that could become crucial franchises for the studio after the "Harry Potter" series comes to an end next year.

However, although various projects have been discussed, nothing has been given a definite spot on the Warner schedule after next June's "Green Lantern," which was already in the works before Nelson took her job.

But the DC president said that with the unit's organizational changes complete, development and production are now the top priority.

"Our intention is that this is the final culmination of more than nine months of careful planning," Nelson said. "Now we are all looking forward before the end of the year to talking a lot about our content plans."

не е битно од кого е, битно да е добар стрип!

Една битна работа што треба да се има на ум во тие статистики е дека Марвел општо вади повеќе броеви неделно/месечно/ју нејм ит. Ѕирнете било која листа на наслови што треба да излегуваат неделно/месечно по 0-day форуми/блогови, споредете и уверете се сами. Марвел вади (барем) околу 1/3 повеќе од DC, освен ако не ги сметате Vertigo и Wildstorm под DC, во кој случај се скоро колку Марвел (иако Vertigo/Wildstorm се водат ко посебни куќи, бидејќи тоа и се, па во тие статистики се сметаат посебно). Значи, во тој market share повеќе се работи за квантитет отколку за квалитет: повеќе броеви, поголема продажба, поголем дел од питата.

Нормално, дали на DC толку им е силата, дали е тоа пресметан потег (квалитет версус квантитет), дали Марвел едноставно ризикува повеќе со поголем број наслови или е нешто сосема четврто е друг муабет, за кој не сум доволно запознаен за да дадем прецизен одговор...

Според мене DC не го стига Marvel..Барем не во скоро време.Марвел ги има Spiderman,Avengers,Thor,Iron Man,X-Men...А DC е со Batman па еве и Superman само.Плус,Marvel забрзано праи филмови за сите свои стрип јунаци,што дополнително ќе го прошири нивниот пазар.

Не знам дали функционира така баш со процентиве. Ама ок, сигурно има некои математики. Да не испадне “ги мрзам DC, ги сакам Marvel", далеку од тоа. Ама факт е дека Marvel од кога постои до денес е подобра издавачка куќа од DC. Ама па затоа DC е повеќе како амерички симбол за стрип издаваштво, затоа што е и постара куќа а и затоа што го има... SUPERMAN Убаво вика Давор. Двете се супер само нека стигнат и овде
